RANCHO MIRAGE

Rancho Mirage, home of some of the nation’s wealthiest and most famous people, is located 11 miles east of Palm Springs in the heart of the California desert. Some of its famous residents include Gerald and Betty Ford, Walter and Leonore Annenberg, and Richard Block from H & R Block. This desert community is filled with beautiful homes and palm tree lined avenues named after Bob Hope, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Ginger Rogers, and Gerald Ford.

Rancho Mirage has a population of 10,550 and is known as the "Playground of the Presidents" because of the many country club homes and golf courses. The town is also known worldwide for its famous medical facilities such as the Betty Ford Center and the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, both located in the Eisenhower Medical Center complex.

Rancho Mirage residents treasure their hometown for its blue skies, clean air, crystal clear nights, and 350 days of sunshine each year. City residents enjoy a superior quality of life, resort living, and excellent dining. The community is home to three world-class, award-winning destination resorts and is noted for its fine restaurants, professional services, and financial institutions. Rancho Mirage has easy access to many destinations in Southern California via major freeways, rail corridors, and the Palm Springs International Airport, which offers service to all major metropolitan areas.

The town’s history begins in 1924 when some LA developers decided to build in the area between Palm Springs and Indio. This area soon became a Hollywood hideaway for celebrities such as Frank Morgan of the Wizard of Oz and Greta Garbo. At the conclusion of World War II, Rancho Mirage became the vacation hot spot for dignitaries such as Harry Truman, followed by the next seven presidents. This was the place to play golf and relax.

Rancho Mirage still holds a reputation of being a great place to just play some golf and enjoy the weather. It has more golf courses than Palm Springs and many have been designed by some of the sport’s most recognized names such as Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer, and Ted Robinson.

The town of Rancho Mirage is not all fun and games though; residents and organizations work to support many causes. Many of the famous and not-so-famous residents host gala events to raise money for a wide range of causes, from children’s centers and education to medical research and rehabilitation. The town is also home to the Desert Holocaust Memorial in honor of those who fell victim to the Nazi holocaust.
